As time marches on, we tend to forget our traditions, and every once in a while they need a little boost to keep them going. Here is a little about the beginning of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Posse.
What can we say?
We have the best sponsors.
Please help us show appreciation by patronizing them.
As a non-profit organization we strive to be an integral part of the community and provide activities and services related to our deep western heritage.
Our members are our most important asset. Without membership, we would not have survived all these years.
As you may know, our rodeo arena is located on city owned property in San Gabriel park in Georgetown. We have been informed by the city that our lease on the land will not be renewed, and as part of Georgetown's master park plan, the arena is to be demolished. Our 2018 rodeo, held in June, was to be the last rodeo held in Georgetown.
As far as the Sheriff Posse knows, the city has no plans to deviate from the master park plan passed in 2014. There is an effort by local citizens, not associated with the Sheriff Posse, that are working in the community to affect the outcome and try to keep the arena in the park. You can find more information on their Facebook page under the search term "Save Georgetown Rodeo".
Currently the Sheriff Posse is in negotiations for a new location in Williamson County on which to build a new rodeo arena and move all of our operations to. When this is finalized, we will update the community.
Will there be a WCSP rodeo in 2019? That is yet to be determined and will be dictated by the progress made in moving to a new location. We are trying hard to make it happen and will update the progress here on our web page.
